Christena and Don Barry have found a sweet way to support Brooksong. Over the past four years, their annual pie sales have raised more than $10,000 to help support people living with cancer!
Each year, they host two pie sales and they bake over 200 pies per event. All of their pies are made from scratch using fresh, Canadian ingredients and a whole lot of love.
“I grew up in a large family and we didn’t have much, but we shared and helped others in the community,” — Christena
What started as an idea has grown into a community event, with their pie sales becoming a highly anticipated occasion every May Long Weekend and Thanksgiving. They are champions who show that raising money and awareness can be fun, creative and even delicious!

“When contemplating how we might celebrate 40 years of marriage, many things came to mind!”
Over the years, Heather and Gerry have built a life full of memories and close relationships. They “had a hiccup with cancer along the way and are now always thinking of ways to pay it back” because people supported and cared for them throughout their experience.
As their Ruby Anniversary approached, friends and family asked what they would like as gifts. Heather and Gerry “didn’t really need anything, but when we would say we don’t need anything, folks still wanted to ‘do something.’ We sincerely didn’t want any ‘thing.'”
Inspired by their guests’ kindness, Heather and Gerry suggested a meaningful way to celebrate together: “What if in lieu of a ‘lil thing,’ folks could give a ‘lil donation’ to Brooksong instead?”
They shared this idea in their invitations and set a $4000 fundraising goal, thinking that “with it being our 40th year celebration that made sense. I’m a goal oriented gal, haha!” With the generosity of their guests, they exceeded that goal.
Mary Fox has been a dedicated part of the Brooksong community for years as a volunteer bedmaker, quilter for our Warm Hugs From the Highlands program, a fundraiser in our annual HHC, and a passionate ambassador.
So when her birthday came around, Mary decided to turn it into one more way to give back.
Instead of a gift, she invited her friends and family to make a donation to Brooksong. She turned her special day into something bigger—a way to support people living with cancer through care, connection, and community.
It was a gesture rooted in the same spirit she brings to everything she does at Brooksong: thoughtful, generous, and grounded in love.
